8 Reasons you need a Personal Trainer

Home / How To / 8 Reasons you need a Personal Trainer

We all need a little help with exercise and diet sometimes, whether we’re just starting out or we’ve been at it for a long time. However many people shy away from Personal Training, unsure of what they’ll get out of the experience or whether it’s worth the money.

Some of the benefits of working with an experienced, knowledgable Personal Trainer include; nutrition advice, a personalised training program, sporting goals, weightloss, technique guidance and support and motivation. Wherever you are on your exercise journey, a personal trainer may be just what you need to take it to the next level.

If you’ve been training regularly either by yourself or in a gym or class and you aren’t losing weight or reaching your goal, then working with a personal trainer is the next logical step, to help you achieve those goals. I can assess your current training, lifestyle and nutrition and then create a programme with realistic goals, hold you accountable for your workouts and help you stay motivated to exercise and maintain a healthy diet. The end result? You reach your goals and feel pretty darn amazing!

I motivated myself to lose over 100lbs in 12 months, so my well of motivation runs deep! I live and breathe to support, encourage and motivate my clients. You are not only investing in a personalised training programme, but you’re investing your time as well, and the motivation of making and keeping that weekly appointment will also help keep you motivated. I will provide accountability, both in your time with me each week and when you’re away from The Forge, via supportive coaching calls/text/emails. Knowing that you not only have a personal trainer, but a friend, life coach and pillar to lean on when you feel like giving up, means you’re more likely to give it everything to reach your goals. Something you may not find in the average gym or bootcamp class.

Working out in a large gym or class can be daunting, and can make you feel self-conscious and embarrassed. This is one of the reasons 1-1 personal training in a private studio is a fantastic alternative. I work solely one-to-one with clients in my custom built private PT Studio, where there’s no judgement, embarrassment or feeling self-conscious. You can feel relaxed, and comfortable around me (remember I’ve been over 100lbs heavier), and I’m there to help you achieve your goals, so you never need to worry about what you look like! Arrive, train hard, move better, feel better and go home buzzing after a great session that takes you closer to your goal.

If you’ve never exercised before, or followed a personalised training programme, it can be overwhelming. I specialise in Strength & Conditioning for fat loss and building strong, lean bodies, involving specific exercises, free weights and odd object training. Walking into a ‘globo’ gym is intimidating for most people (especially women), however working 1-1 with me, you will learn how to lift weight, to lose weight!

If you have any specific medical injuries or a recent injury, working with a qualified personal trainer can help you address imbalances which lead to injuries, work within your medical condition, and avoid any further problems. Just because you have an injury doesn’t mean you shouldn’t, or can’t, exercise. I can help you identify your weaknesses and design a program that strengthens your body without putting too much pressure or strain on any one area. I can also show you how to safely exercise and look for signs of muscle overuse. It is always advised to work closely with your physical therapist and doctor to ensure you are able to exercise.

Training yourself you always tend to do workouts you like, and you can slack off when things get tough. Which means you don’t see the gains you want, and you don’t reach your goals. A personal trainer can motivate you to push past those self-imposed limits, encouraging you to lift heavier, learn better technique, go longer and challenge yourself more than you would on your own. You’ll find it’s very hard to slack off when I’m right behind you, motivating you to push until the final seconds! This is when you find hidden strengths you never knew you had, which can motivate you even more.

Sure, you can head to the gym and do your own thing on the machines, but a Personal Trainer can look at your current fitness levels, nutrition, flexibility, mobility and body composition, and based on your goals, create an exercise program that will allow you to accomplish those goals realistically. I can also offer dietary suggestions, sample meal plans, nutrition tips and tricks and improve your daily habits, to help you along with your weight loss or fitness goals. Having a personalised program that has been designed specifically to help you meet your goals is a fantastic investment in your health and wellbeing, now and in the future. No two people are the same, so why would you go the same classes or use the same program as the person next to you?! A personalised approach will get results quicker and help you move and feel better, as they are designed explicitly for your weaknesses, goals and targets.
